The best part of eating at Legal Sea Food is having a bowl of their New England Clam Chowder. This chowder is served every four years at the presidential inaugural celebration. It is truly a great bowl of chunky, creamy, clam packed chowder.
We don't normally each order a main dish but after an afternoon in the sun we were starving and so James went with the Nutty Atlantic Salmon and Aida opted for the Tortilla, Apple, Goat Cheese Salad with scallops.
The Nutty Atlantic Salmon is almond crusted, sautéed in a lemon caper butter sauce served over mushroom ravioli and wilted spinach. The sauce was the star of the dish, lemony and packed full of flavor. The almond crust added a nice crunch to an otherwise flat dish. Every component of this dish, minus the sauce, could have benefited from a pinch of salt. The fish was way to fishy, which made us question the freshness of the fish; normally the older the fish the fishier the taste. The ravioli were filled with a mushroom pure and, apart from the sauce, were the best element of the dish.
Aida's Tortilla, Apple, Goat Cheese Salad with scallops tasted fine but was hard to eat. The scallops were nicely cooked with crisp grill marks on the outside. The dish came served on top of a bed of uncut Romaine lettuce. The tortilla, apple, and goat cheese mixture was delicious but it was hard to get to; it was stuck between the ridges caused by the lettuce leaves. Overall it was a good dish for those looking to have a lighter meal at Legal Sea Food.
This is a convenient restaurant if you are hanging out at the New England Aquarium or enjoying one of the other tourist attractions in the area.
