Mike's Pastries is one of the most recognizable spots in Boston's North End. Go on a weekend night and expect the line to be out the door! We decided to head on down for one of their famous cannolis last Thursday night; the place was empty, the pastries were fresh, and the service was great!
To start off we ordered a cup of hot chocolate. Although it is known for its pastries, Mike's does hot chocolate right! It seems like it is made in an expresso machine, which makes it light and foamy. The perfect cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's night!
Next, we ordered a few of Mike's Pastries oversized cannolis. First we had the Amaretto Cannoli, which is filled with amaretto flavored ricotta, dipped in almonds, dunked in chocolate, and topped with a shower of powder sugar. This funky twist on a cannoli is delicious, especially for those of us who enjoy a sip of Disaronno every now and then. A great alternative to a traditional cannoli!
Lastly we had the regular ricotta filled cannoli, topped with chocolate chips, and confectionary sugar. This is the perfect traditional cannoli, put over the top with delicious chocolate flavor! A must have for those looking for a bit of old fashioned flavor with a twist!
Anyone looking for a sweet taste of Italy should definitely head down to the North End and give Mike's Pastries a try! Remember to bring cash for Mike's is a cash only establishment. Mike's is one of our favorite bakeries in Boston, we just cant get enough of their delicious pastries! It was a perfect way to end our mid-week date!
